Rondom works as a research partner with the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), the research institute of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AVL). As part of this collaboration, we investigate how the effects of chemotherapy influence the daily functioning of people with cancer. By combining medical knowledge with expertise in the fields of physical activity and functioning, we are helping to develop better care.
Performance review
Together with oncologists and researchers from the NKI/AVL, we are working on the LOCATE study. This study focuses on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), a form of nerve damage that can develop following chemotherapy. CIPN can lead to symptoms such as reduced sensation in the feet, muscle weakness and balance problems, making walking and carrying out daily activities more difficult.
At LOCATE, we are investigating how changes in foot function, gait and balance are linked to these CIPN symptoms and what impact this has on daily functioning and quality of life.
Knowledge for better care
By combining the medical expertise of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek with Rondom’s knowledge of movement and functioning, we gain a better understanding of the impact of chemotherapy on daily life. This knowledge helps to better understand symptoms and forms an important basis for developing targeted support and future treatment options for people with CIPN.
